Benefits of Exercise

"Maybe
I should get up early and exercise like all those crazy people do."
This is what my husband said one day as he was contemplating his
love handles. I didn't say anything about him calling me crazy
(since I get up early to exercise, I can only assume he was talking
about me), nor did I shout "Ha!" at the idea of him actually getting
up early to workout (although I'm pretty sure it would take a very
large, very loud crane to get him up for a workout in the a.m.). In
fact, I didn't say anything because I've learned to keep my mouth
shut about things like exercise - just one of those things that
keeps our marriage together.
The
truth is, training yourself to get up and exercise in the morning
isn't easy, even for morning people like me. But it's worth the
effort for a number of reasons:
You get your workout out of the way before life interferes
It sets the tone for your day. After your workout, everything else
will be easier
-
It
gives you a burst of energy to tackle the rest of your day
-
It
makes you feel good about yourself
-
It
makes you smarter
-
It
makes you more popular
Okay, I
made that last one up, but the rest are true. If you've been
avoiding morning exercise like a virulent plague, consider some baby
steps for making morning exercise a reality. Get up 10 minutes early
for a walk or some light activity. Practice that a few times for a
week or so and then start adding more intensity. You'll find it does
become easier and you won't want to start your day without it.
